1.She is From Texas

Simone was born on March 14th, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, but she was raised primarily in Texas. This makes her a Pisces! Pisces are known to be compassionate, artistic and focused – all perfect attributes for Simone’s career!

2. She Was Raised By Her Grandparents

Simone’s parents were unable to care for her, and she was mostly raised by her grandparents instead. When she was 6 her grandparents formally adopted Simone and her younger sister, and she considers them her parents. She has spoken on numerous occasions about their support making her career possible.

3. Simone Started Gymnastics When She Was 6

Simone’s first experience with gymnastics was on a school field trip aged 6 – she was hooked! She started formally training soon afterwards, and her parents soon opened their own gym to help her out.

4. She Collects Turtles

Simone loves turtles! She collects as many turtle themed things as possible -it all started when her mother Nellie gave her tiny porcelain turtles as a good luck charm before competitions. She has even participated in a baby turtle beach rescue!

5. Her Sister is Also a Gymnast

Simone’s sister Adria is also a gymnast. Adria is younger than Simone by two years, and they often get mistaken for twins! Adria grew up training and competing alongside Simone. She left gymnastics in 2016, and is now a cheerleader for the Houston Astros football team!

6. Her Nickname is the GOAT

Simone is sometimes known as The GOAT – or Greatest of All Time, referring to her recording breaking gymnastics skills. She even wore a leotard with a goat on it to compete in 2021, as well as a diamond goat pendant during the 2024 Paris Olympics medal ceremony, where she won gold.

7. Simone Has a Leotard Line

Simone’s iconic leotards have led to her starting her own leotard fashion line! Simone partnered with sportswear company GK Elite, and the line includes leotards for all sizes and ages. You can even get replicas of her Olympic costumes!

8. She Took a Hiatus in 2020

After struggling with her mental health at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone decided to take some time out of gymnastics. She did not compete for two years, stating that she felt it was important to put her health first. We couldn’t agree more!

9. Simone Appeared On Dancing With the Stars

Simone appeared on season 24 of Dancing With the Stars in 2017. She’s actually the fifth Olympian to appear on the show! Simone and her partner Sasha Farber placed 4th overall.

10. She Loves Pizza

Simeone LOVES pizza! She treats herself to a pepperoni pizza after every competition, whether or not she wins. Her personal favourite type of pizza comes from a chain in St Louis, Missouri, called IMO’s. She calls their pizza ‘a perfect 10’.

11. Simone Has Had FOUR German Shepherds!

She has owned four German shepherds called Maggie, Atlas, Lily and Bella. Sadly, two have since passed away, but she also has two French bulldogs called Lilo and Rambo! Phew! She must really love dogs!

12. She is the Most Decorated Gymnast in History

She really is the GOAT. Simone has 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold, as well as 23 World Championships gold. In total, she has won 43 medals in gymnastics, officially making her the most decorated gymnast EVER! She is also the second most decorated female Olympic gymnast ever, and the most decorated US Olympic gymnast.

13. She is Only 4’8 Tall!

Simone is almost as famous for her tiny stature as her gymnastic achievements! At a tiny 4 feet 8 inches tall (1.42m) she is the smallest person on the US Olympic team, as well as one of the shortest American athletes ever!

14. Her Parents Have Only Missed One Competition

Since she started performing, Simone’s parents Nellie and Ronald have only missed one engagement – the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This was due to the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic meant they weren’t allowed to travel with her. Simone has talked about how difficult it was to perform without their support.

15. She Had the Same Coach For 12 Years

From the ages of 8 to 20, Simone trained with Aimee Boorman. Aimee said that Simone was a natural from day one, already doing back handsprings when she arrived at the gym. When Aimee relocated to Florida, Simone switched to French coach Laurent Landi.
