Archive: Beano Annual 1955
Take a peek inside this 1950’s annual, filled with classic comic strips and adventure stories!
1955 Beano Annual
Biffo the Bear is always up to mischief, and would remain the cover mascot of the Beano comic for another few decades. In future years, Biffo gets smaller and smaller on the Beano covers, as Dennis gets bigger!
Uncle Windbag
Uncle Windbag appeared briefly appeared in the first year of Beano. This old storyteller was revived during the 50’s for a successful run of nearly a decade in the weekly comic.
Dennis the Menace and the Demolition
Dennis frequently would be punished for his misbehaviour – you can see the headmaster brandishing his cane in the bottom panel. In classic cartoon style, the last panel obscures any violence with a text box. Ouch!
Young Robin Hood
Beano has always told stories about rebels, and Robin Hood was the Dennis the Menace of his day! This picture story shows Beano telling stories about younger characters, while sticking with the historical adventure setting.
