Beano Superstars – George Whizz

He’s the dad of the world’s fastest boy – but he prefers to do things at his own pace!

My name is George, but you’ll probably know me better as Billy Whizz’s dad.

When Billy was born, he basically started running around straight away and it was impossible to catch him to change his nappy. When we did manage to do it, his nappy began to smoke while he was darting around like a beam of light. I was so confused and almost called the fire brigade. It turns out nappies aren’t made for people who can run faster than a Formula 1 car.

A big part of my week is going to racing tracks to get special tyres for Billy, as we use the rubber for the soles of his trainers. It’s the only material that can withstand the incredible speeds he can run. We once bought him a normal pair of trainers and they’d basically worn through before he’d left the shop. That was an expensive morning!

You might be surprised to learn that I’m the exact opposite of Billy, as in I like to do things in his own time and at my own speed.

Billy thinks I take too much time to do things, but it’s important to be thorough and go at my own pace. You get things done properly that way. Billy hurtles through any chores in the house. Yes, they’re done but they’re not done properly. I can’t remember the last time he did anything slowly. Young people rush around these days – but not like Billy! He’s like a greased greyhound. Then there’s Alfie, his younger brother, who has started to become extremely quick at moving around. I don’t need to do any exercise as they both keep me on my toes. When I get the chance to sit down with a cup of tea and a biscuit, I take it. But even I don’t get to enjoy those for long.
