Alexa and Katie has got to be one of the most heart-warming stories of friendship out there – but how well do you know the show? Did you know that Paris Berelc, otherwise known as Alexa, had their first acting job in the show Mighty Med! This fun show follows the hilarious happenings of a superhero hospital. Well, where else do you think they go when they hurt themselves?

2. Isabelle May’s first role was as Katie!

That’s right, it was on this amazing show that they first started their career as an actor! And with such a great story under their belt, it’s no wonder that they’ve set right off on the journey to becoming a big time star. We’re sure there’s a lot more in store for Isabelle May’s story!

3. The actor that plays Jennifer said it’s her favourite role!

Even though she’s been the star of some great shows, the actor Jolie Jenkins thinks that playing Katie’s mum is the best role she’s played so far. With so many episodes, she’s really been able to spread her acting talent, that much is obvious!

4. Alexa did a lot of research for the show.

Talking about cancer can be hard, especially when it happens to young people. So to prepare for the role, the actor the plays Alexa, Paris Berelc, spent a long time researching. She spoke with young people with cancer, and asked them lots of questions about their lives. This was really important to make sure she was being true to the role.

5. Finn Carr has been acting since he was 4!

Finn plays the hilarious and compassionate Jack Cooper in the show, but he’s been acting for a really long time. Playing little roles here and there has really prepared him for this one though and his talents haven’t gone unnoticed. He was only 12 when he started in Alexa and Katie, but it’s clear how much he’s learnt through the show – what kind of parts will he play next?

6. The show was nominated for an Emmy!

In 2018, Alexa and Katie was in the running for the Primetime Emmy for an Outstanding Children’s Programme! Sadly it didn’t quite manage to win the prize, but we all know, because we’re here reading these facts, that maybe it deserved it!

7. But it did win awards in the end!

Even though it missed out on the Emmy, in 2021 after the show played out the final chapter, it won the 2021 Kids Choice Award. Which, let’s be honest, is probably better than an Emmy anyway? Right?! It just goes to show that if you stick with something, it’s only a matter of time before you get recognised!

8. The Actor that played Alexa’s mum had a cooking show!

A few years before starring as Alexa’s mum in the show, Tiffani Thiessen spent her time making cakes, bread, breakfasts and snacks on American television! She enjoys cooking so much, that she also wrote a cookbook to go along with it, called Dinner at Tiffani’s –  a spin on the classic 1961 film ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’.

9. Finn Carr doesn’t like peanut butter!

Back to the actor that plays Jack Cooper! In an interview, he once said that he doesn’t like peanut butter! This shocked the interviewer, and it’s not even because he’s allergic to nuts, he just doesn’t like the stuff. Which is kind of fair enough really, just because everyone else likes a thing, doesn’t mean you should too!

10. Dave isn’t really a pilot!

He might have the outfit, and he might have that hat, but in real life Eddie Shin (that’s the actor’s name) can’t really fly a plane. So if you’re ever on a plane and he offers to take a turn in the cockpit, don’t let him – he doesn’t know what he’s doing, despite the hat!

11. The actor that plays Lucas was a geek in school!

Instead of the popular kid on the block that he plays in Alexa and Katie, in an interview – he admitted that he was much more of a theatre geek than anything else! But hey! It got him a part playing one of the funniest characters in the show – so maybe being a geek isn’t all that bad?

12. Lucas was in a real-life boyband!

Okay, not Lucas, but the actor that plays him! Emery Kelly used to be in a band called ‘Forever in Your Mind’! Alongside some other musicians, they released a whole load of music, so if you’re really into Lucas, why not check it out and see if you like the band?! You never know, you might have a new favourite group!

13. Alexa and Katie didn’t really cut their hair!

Although during cancer treatment, hair loss is very normal, the actors didn’t actually cut off their hair. Because of the filming of the show, it would have made it very difficult – but the special effects team still did a really good job of creating the bald look for the two actors!

14. Alexa and Katie was the first ‘multi-camera’ show they’ve made!

A multi-camera show is where all the action on screen takes place at once, but is filmed on lots of different cameras at the same time. After all this footage is taken, the editors put it back together and make the show that we know and love! It’s a very clever way of making shows, but until Alexa and Katie, not something that Netflix had tried!

15. Potato is an actor!

Did you know dogs can be actors too!? It takes a lot of training to be an actor dog, so even though all of the characters really get on with Potato the dog, at the end of the day’s filming, it goes home with a dog handler! That said, we all know that Potato is the real star of the show!
