1. Ryan’s hometown

Ryan is a Canadian, and was born in Vancouver, British Colombia. Thanks to his upbringing, he can also speak French fluently! Ryan’s acting career started in the 1990s when he got some parts on small films and TV shows. His breakthrough role wasn’t until the popular sitcom “Two Guys and a Girl” in the late 90s. He’s well known for being to play comedy parts and intense action roles equally well!

2. The Puce Prankster

Reynolds once pulled a complicated prank on a friend by painting their entire office puce, a muddy, unattractive shade of red. He didn’t stop at the walls – every item, including the inside of the desk, pencils, and pens, was carefully painted. Arrrgh!

3. He loves dogs

Reynolds adopted a golden retriever named Baxter in 2008. When he first saw him in a rescure centre he said he saw “this big, dumb-looking retriever staring up at me” and whispered, “Hey, let’s get the hell out of here.” Baxter immediately responded, jumping into Reynolds’ car, and they’ve been inseparable since. He now has 4 dogs, which live with him and his family.

4. He likes belly rubs. Apparently!

Ryan is well known for joking with fans online. Once, a vet hospital in British Columbia offered “free belly rubs with exams” for pets and “Ryan Reynolds only.” Reynolds responded, saying, “Don’t think for a second I won’t come in to redeem this offer. Belly rubs are why I became a golden retriever in the first place.” Imagine the shock when the vet logged in to their social media that day!

5. He loves making up words

Reynolds is very fond of coming up with creative new words, especially rude ones! On his social media he’ll sometimes stick two words together like “guff” and “symphony”. To get technical, terms like this are called “compound words” and they’re a great way to get your point across whilst having a laugh at the same time!

6. He made Deadpool happen

Ryan Reynolds is best known for playing Deadpool, a superhero who cracks jokes while fighting bad guys. He loved the character so much that he personally fought to get the movie made. The first Deadpool movie was a huge hit, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated superhero movie ever!

7. He’s great at social media

Reynolds is well-known for his social media presence, and often shares funny memes and posts about parenting, fame, and life in general. Despite being such a big star, his posts are really relatable! So it’s no surprise that he’s followed by millions of people!

8. Detective Pikachu

Ryan was the voice of Pikachu in Detective Pikachu, a movie where the cute electric Pokémon came to life. Instead of the high-pitched squeaky voice you’d expect, Pikachu had Ryan’s funny, fast-talking personality. Fans loved it and Detective Pikachu was a big success!

9. He likes to laugh at himself

Not all of his movies have been successful – B=before Deadpool, Ryan played the superhero Green Lantern in 2011. Although the movie wasn’t as big of a hit as other superhero films, Ryan often jokes about it. He even made fun of it in Deadpool! This proves how he doesn’t take himself too seriously, and is much more likeable than other movie stars as a result!

10. He saved his nephew’s life!

Ryan once saved his nephew’s life by being able to perform CPR. He’s been a big supporter of teaching first aid ever since, and recommends all parents take a course, because you never know when you might need that info. So he’s a real life hero as well!

11. He’s won some big awards

Ryan has won several awards for his work in movies. One of the coolest was the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actor. He also got a Golden Globe nomination for Deadpool. One of the best awards was for the show Welcome to Wrexham – but more on that later!

12. He’s married to Blake Lively

Reynolds is married to Blake Lively, and the couple have two daughters. Despite keeping their private lives, well, private – the couple often banter with each other on social media, and even work together on the same projects. Cute!

13. He’s a producer too!

Ryan isn’t just an actor – he produces movies too! He also owns a company called Maximum Effort that makes funny adverts. One of the most famous ads features a Christmas sweater that kept appearing in different places! Whatever he does he usually ends up making people smile.

14. He does a lot of work for charity

Ryan and his wife, Blake Lively, have donated millions of dollars to charities that help kids and families in need. He says it’s important to use his success to help others – which he certainly has done! As well as lots of animal charities, Ryan has used his wealth to support the Michael J Fox Foundation – a Parkinson’s charity.

15. He loves Wrexham FC!

Ryan bought a football team in Wales called Wrexham AFC with his friend Rob McElhenney. For readers who might not know – Wrexham is a small town kind of in the middle of nowhere in the UK. He even made a TV show about it called Welcome to Wrexham!
