5 Top Tips for Finding Inspiration!

Ever wondered where your favourite authors get their brilliant ideas from? Read this and let your imagination run riot!

1. Imagine what your pet gets up to when you’re not at home

As much as we’d like to, we don’t spent every second of the day with our pets. What do they do when they’ve got the house to themselves or when they go outside? What TV programmes do they watch? Do they switch the kettle on a make a cup of tea? Do they fight crime? Lots to think about there.

2. Think about super powers!

If you were a superhero, what would your special powers be? What gadgets would you use? How would you travel from place to place? What would your name be? Even if your main character is a superhero who tidies up when no-one is around, it’s worth thinking of their costume and how they keep their identities secret.

3. What do socks think about?

Socks must have a million thoughts during the day. What are their ambitions? How do they react when they’re separated from the other sock? What are their likes and dislikes? If they were lost during laundry day, how would they find their way back? And, perhaps most importantly, how do they smell?

4. Go for a walk!

A wander in the fresh air will let your mind roam and think of things you might not usually do when sat at the kitchen table. Plus, a bit of exercise is good for your brain. Don’t forget to wrap up or take an umbrella if the weather’s rotten!

5. Keep your eyes open!

No matter how boring a day can seem, there’s always something unusual going on. We’re not suggesting you act and dress up like a detective, but noticing little details about people’s lives and actions can provide a wealth of material for your story! Right, is your pet back in the house? See if they’re acting like they’ve saved the day or not…
