1. They formed after appearing on a reality show in 2015

TWICE is a K-pop group who formed on the reality show Sixteen in 2015, and feature 9 members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu! They released their first EP called The Story Begins later that year.

2. Their breakthrough came the following year

Things really took off for TWICE in 2016 after the release of their single Cheer Up. This catchy single topped the charts in South Korea, and helped the group win Song of the Year at the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards. The song is featured on their EP Page Two.

3. They’ve broken a lot of records!

TWICE are the first Korean girl group to earn Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for album sales. They’ve topped many charts in South Korea, Japan, and around the world. Their single What is Love? has had over one billion views on YouTube, while in 2024, they earned over one billion streams on Spotify in just 191 days.

4. They’ve been called the ‘Nation’s Girl Group’

The group have been nicknamed the ‘Nation’s Girl Group’ of South Korea because of their huge following and for helping establish the popularity of K-pop around the world.

5. Their fans are called ONCE

TWICE’s fanbase is called ONCE. The name means that if fans love TWICE even once, the group will repay that love twice. ONCEs are known for their dedicated support, making TWICE one of the most well-loved groups in K-pop with mega fans around the globe.

Their EP Twicecoaster: Lane 1 was the highest-selling Korean girl group album of 2016. The release features 7 songs, including Ponytail, Jelly Jelly and One in a Million. The song TT was released as the EP’s lead single.

TWICE releases music in Korean, Japanese, and English, reflecting their multicultural member lineup and diverse international fanbase. Their Japanese albums have seen great success, making them one of the top K-pop acts in Japan, with multiple hits on the Oricon charts.

8. They went on their first world tour in 2019

TWICE went on their first world tour, called TWICELIGHTS, in 2019. The tour included sold out shows in cities across North America, Asia, and beyond! Tickets are rarer than hen’s teeth.

9. Momo is the group’s best dancer

Momo is known for her incredible dance abilities, and has been nicknamed TWICE’s ‘dance machine’. She began dancing at a young age and has showed off her moves in the group’s music videos and variety shows.

10. Tzuyu comes from Taiwan

Tzuyu is TWICE’s youngest member and the only in the group to be born in Taiwan. She became an instant favourite after taking part in Sixteen. Her popularity in Taiwan means that she is the most famous celebrities in the country.

11. The group’s name symbolises their plan to win fans

The name TWICE has a double meaning, being the group’s plan to win over an audience in two ways “The group will touch people’s hearts twice, once through the ears, and once again through the eyes,” said manager J.Y. Park. And guess what? It worked!

12. Jeongyeon’s dad is a famous chef!

Her father, Yoo Changjoon, is a popular traditional chef in Korea. Despite his culinary skills, he is not responsible for cooking up some tasty singles for the group!

13. Mina was born in the USA

Group dancer and backing vocalist Mina was born in San Antonio, Texas to Japanese parents. She moved to Kobe, Japan when she was young.

14. Sana is afraid of thunder

People who have a fear of thunder are said to have astraphobia! This might explain why you never hear samples of this type of weather in any of their songs.

15. There’s a film about TWICE

In 2020, the group were the subject of a full-length documentary called Twice: Seize the Light. It’s a look behind the scenes of their first-ever world tour in 2019 and was released through YouTube Originals.
