1. Paris Saint-Germain are a relatively new team

The French team were formed in the summer of 1970. It was the result of two teams – Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain – joining forces to become PSG. 

2. They have a few nicknames

Paris Saint-Germain fans call their favourite team a number of different nicknames. They’re Les Rouge et Bleu (the Red and Blues), Les Parisiens (The Parisians) or simply PSG (PSG). 

3. They play at the Park of Princes

Paris Saint-Germain have played their home games at the Parc des Princes since 1974. Its capacity is 47,929 and is regarded as one of the most architecturally stunning structures in European football.

Most football teams’ rivals are local – but not for Paris Saint-Germain. Their fiercest rivals are based in the Provence region of southern France – Olympique de Marseille! Their fixtures are named Le Classique and is always a thrilling game to watch as the two sides battle it out for bragging rights. 5. PSG fans love to sing at matches

The Parc des Princes is a noisy place on match day, with their loyal crowd singing songs to inspire their team and intimidate the opposition. Songs include Ici, c’est Paris! and Paris est magique!

6. PSG’s women’s team formed in 1971

Les Parisiennes play their home fixtures at the 20,000 capacity Stade Jean-Bouin. They’re currently in Division 1 Féminine – which they won in 2020-21 – and have a rivalry with Olympique Lyonnais!

7. They’ve won lots in their short history

The team have won Ligue 1 11 times, the Coupe de France 14 times, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup once and the UEFA Intertoto Cup, too!

Brazilian legend Neymar – full name: Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior – was sold by Barcelona to PSG in the summer of 2017 for a whopping €222 million! That’s almost £190 million and a record signing for the club, even more than what Monaco received for Kylian Mbappé!

13. Their fans changed the words to a Scottish song

At the Parc des Princes, you might hear PSG fans sing a song called Ô Ville Lumière which is translated to Oh City of Light. The tune is actually Flower of Scotland, which was written and recorded by Roy Williamson in 1967. The original is used by Scottish teams in various international sporting events.

14. They’re the 7th most valuable football team in the world

According to an American business magazine Forbes, experts have valued Paris Saint-Germain at $4.2 billion. Real Madrid are top of the list, worth an estimated $8 billion. Phew!

15. Kylian Mbappé is the club’s leading goal scorer
