I'm Roger's dad – you know, Roger the Dodger – and I'd like to think I know what's the best way to do things. My son, on the other hand, thinks he knows best.

Saying that, Roger often helps me to dodge stuff, especially when my wife Ada (Roger's mum) asks us both to help with something. He's always ready with an excuse or a tactic to avoid jobs around the house. It's inspirational to see how skilfully he can get out of stuff. I'm only just beginning to learn his crafty dodging ways, and one day, I'll be able to spot him hatching some plans from a mile away. He's got some books in his room, which reveal the secret of truly great dodges. The next time he goes out with his friend Dave, I'll borrow them and scan them into my computer. Then I'll have the last laugh!

He pulled one of his greatest dodges quite recently. One weekend, we had planned to do lots of chores around the house, like tidying up and things like that. Little did I know that the night before, he put thick black paper on our bedroom window and I slept in really late – every time I woke up, I thought it was still the middle of the night. And my alarm clock kept telling the same time – he'd taken the batteries out as an extra prank. By the time I got out of bed, the day was almost over and he'd got away with helping. Again! He's always doing that. But one weekend, I said we had to do some things in the garden and he tried doing the black paper trick again. I had the longest sleep. It was excellent, but he has no idea that I realised what he was up to.
