If you couldn’t tell already, we’re extremely excited to be able to share with you the winner of Britain’s Funniest Class 2023!
Yes, that’s right! Class Indigo 1 (Year 5) from Greasley Beauvale Primary School in Eastwood crowned the nation’s funniest with “What happened to the maths teacher’s garden? It grew square roots” joke above proving once and for all (as if any of us ever doubted) that maths + jokes = lols!
The winning class have been immortalised in Beano form by the legendary Beano artist Nigel Parkinson and will be featuring in this week’s comic – which on sale now in shops across the country!
Beano was inundated with jokes from all over the country for this year’s competition, and the entries were whittled down to a shortlist of the Top 10 funniest schools by a select committee of Beano’s best Joke Judges before the public crowned the winner.

It was Greasley Beauvale Primary School that emerged victorious, securing the coveted Funniest Class title with their winning joke claimed over 51% of the total votes.
Headteacher at Greasley Beauvale Primary School said, “The kids had an absolute blast crafting their joke, and having it showcased on the cover of the Beano comic is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind moment. We’re overjoyed to spread their hilarious joke far and wide, bringing laughter to the entire nation and eliciting countless morning chuckles!”
