Solve the equation to crack the code! How many padlocks can you crack wide open?

Each padlock has a sequence of four number. YOU have to add these numbers together to get the answer that will unlock the padlock. Solve the addition equation, and select the numbers that make up the answer – if your answer is 12, press the buttons for ‘1’ and then ‘2’. If your answer is ’29’, press the buttons for ‘2’ and then ‘9’. If you answer is just 6 – just press ‘6’. It’s simply cracking!

Want some mathematical tips so you can get cracking?

There are only four numbers on the padlock, and the highest digit each number can be 9. This means that no answer will be above 36 – that shouldn’t be too hard, right?

Some answers can be single digits too – not every answer will be a number with two places. Don’t forget silly equations might appear more complicated than they are;

Like  0 + 6 + 0 + 0  (don’t get confused by the zero’s!)  

or  7 + 2 + 8 + 3  (swap the numbers into two sets of ten for quicker addition)

or even 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 (use your multiplication table knowledge to shortcut this one into 4×4!)

Use mental maths to count things up quickly in your head, and enter the correct answers before the BLUE BAR fills the screen. There’s plenty of time to figure things out though, as there’s no penalty for incorrect answers. Answering correct will push back the blue bar a little bit each time, and give you more precious seconds to keep cracking codes.

But be careful you don’t run out of time – if the blue bar fills up the screen, it’s game over for you, code-breaker.

If you score above 60, you probably had a cracking good run!

If you score above 90, you’re a tough nut to crack – nice job!
