Sam Kerr is one of the best football players in the world. That's a fact! She's represented Australia in many international competitions and currently plays for Chelsea WFC. Here's some awesome facts about this Aussie goal machine!

1. She was born in Australia!

Sam Kerr is a football star known for her goal-scoring prowess. She was born on September 10, 1993, in East Fremantle, Australia!

2. She started her professional career in Perth!

Kerr started playing football at around the age of 12, after she'd picked up injuries playing Aussie Rules. Her first professional team was Perth Glory and signed for the W-League side in 2008. During her 3 years at the club, she played 22 games and scored 5 times.

3. She's played in the USA!

Sam has played for several teams in the USA's NWSL. She's represented Western New York Flash, Sky Blue FC in New Jersey, and the Chicago Red Stars before heading to England. 

4. She signed for Chelsea in 2020!

Kerr's move to Chelsea in the English Women's Super League (WSL) was a game-changer. After signing in 2019, she seamlessly fitted into the team, and became a key figure in the West London team's success.

5. She made her senior debut for Australia in 2009!

Sam Kerr's World Cup journey with the Matildas (Australia's national team) is one for the books! She made her senior debut for the national team against Italy in February 2009. A year later, she helped Australian win their first-ever Asian Cup against Korea DPR and scored a goal!

6. She once scored five goals for Australia!

In 2022, she once hit the net five times – a a hat-trick inside the first 27 minutes – when they played Indonesia. The final score was a whopping 18-0!

In late 2022, Kerr was featured on the packaging for FIFA 23 – this was the first for a women's football star to do so!

During her time as Chelsea striker, Kerr has played a crucial role in helping the team secure the Women's Super League title four times, the Women's FA Cup three times, and the Women's League Cup twice. They almost won the UEFA Women's Champions League in 2021, too!

10. Her brother was an Aussie Rules player!

The striker has a strong family connection to the sport. Her older brother, Daniel Kerr, is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2015, she got on the scoresheet but her side were eventually knocked out by the host nation in the quarter finals.

12. She almost won the Ballon d'Or in 2023!

While the Chelsea and Australia striker has regularly been nominated for the annual football award, she was placed second in the 2023 ceremony, just narrowly missing out on the coveted prize. Spain's Aitana Bonmatí was placed top that year.

13. Her sporting achievements were recognised by her country!

In 2018, the footballer was presented with the Young Australian of the Year Award, which is given to those who makes a  “significant contribution to the Australian community and nation"!

14. She's scored the most goals in one UEFA Women's Champion League game!

In 2022, she was the first player to score four goals in a UEFA Women's Champions League group stage game. She broke the record when Chelsea played Albanian team Vllanzia, winning 8-0!

15. She's Australia's all-time leading goal scorer!

Not only is she the Matilda's all-time leading scorer, she's also scored the most goals the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the USA.
