Easter is a the oldest Christian festival which observes the resurrection of Jesus following his crucifixion and takes place in the spring. According to the Bible, Jesus was crucified and died on a Friday, which is now known as Good Friday. Then, three days later, on Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead, which is celebrated on Easter Sunday.
Many different traditions are associated with Easter. Yes, one of the most well-known of these traditions is the Easter egg, which represents new life and rebirth. It is said that the tradition of colouring eggs comes from an ancient belief that eggs were a symbol of new life.
Another tradition is the Easter bunny, who is said to bring baskets of treats and gifts to children. No-one knows the Easter bunny's exact origin story, but it is believes to come from the German tradition of the 'Osterhase', which was a thoughtful hare that brought coloured eggs to children.
There are many other traditions, too. Many churches hold special services and events at Easter, including sunrise services and Easter egg hunts. Families might get together for a special meal or perhaps exchange gifts, like chocolate eggs or a new outfit for children. It's a special time!
