Encanto is a new animated Disney film which tells the story of a family called the Madrigals who live in the Colombian mountains.Â
Everyone who lives in a magical house called Casita has a special gift: the ability to transform into someone else, the ability to control the weather, or the strength to lift up loads of donkeys at once. Everyone has an amazing skill.
Well, almost everyone. Mirabel, a young girl, discovers at a young age that she does not have a special power like the rest of her family.
Her uncle Bruno – who we don’t talk about, no, no, no – has the power to predict the future. His ability to see what happens next frightens the everyone who lives at the Casita, so he leaves and hides away in a cave in order to protect them and allow them to live their lives without any doom and gloom.
The Casita begins to fall apart, and because of its disappearing magical powers, everyone in the family begins to lose their special gifts or at least feel themselves weaken. Mirabel tracks down Bruno and discovers him living with rats, and pleads with him to look into the future. Will they be able to restore the house’s magical powers, and allow everyone to regain their special gift?
We won’t say any more, but if you’ve watched Encanto, chances are you’ve watched it many times since, sang the songs very loudly and took a moment to ask yourself which character you’re most like. If you’ve lifted up many donkeys at once, chances are you’ve already decided that you’re Luisa, who’s not definitely not nervous and is tough as the crust of the earth is.
