If you're a Marvel fan, then you'll know how amazing the series of films are. If you've not yet dipped your toe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe – or MCU, for short – then you're in for a treat. Either way, here are a batch of awesome facts and there's no massive spoilers!
1. The original movie was quite successful, we reckon!
The Avengers was the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make over ONE BILLION DOLLARS at cinemas across the world!
2. The Avengers: Endgame is the most viewed trailer on YouTube!
For a while, the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was the most popular trailer and has racked up over 230 million views so far. But as we write the this, two separate trailers for Endgame occupy the top two slots, with 289 million and 268 million streams so far. Wow!
3. Marvel used real superheroes in The Avengers!
When the Avengers are faced with their enemies in New York City, the directors used actual members of the 391st Military Police Force Battalion from Ohio state to help them out!
4. The stars of The Avengers played a board game during breaks!
Making films takes a lot of time and actors often find themselves sitting around on set while adjustments are made to the set and lighting. To stop themselves from getting bored, they broke out the game of Boggle and really got into it, according to Chris 'Captain America' Evans! That's much better than staring at the wall and eating crisps.
5. The Avengers marked Nick Fury's fifth appearance in Marvel movies!
Avengers founder NicK Fury – played by Samuel L. Jackson – popped up in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, before the original movie was released!
6. Infinity War introduced three Marvel comic planets!
Take a bow, Nidavellir, Titan and Vormir! Can planets take a bow? Probably, in a scientific way.
7. In the Age of Ultron movie, a legendary catchphrase is said for the first time!
Marvel comic creator Stan Lee says 'Excelsior!' for the first time, anywhere in a Marvel film. It's a Latin word that means 'forever upward'. So now you know.
8. Did you spot the Disney cartoon reference in the Ultron trailer?
When Ultron says "There are no strings on me", it's a line from the song I've Got No Strings from the 1940 film Pinocchio.
9. The gang gets back together in Endgame!
Avengers: Endgame is notable for the fact that the original line-up from the comics appear for the very first time: Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp!
10. Endgame is the longest Marvel movie!
Its running time is 181 minutes. That's just over three hours of superhero mayhem, so best get some snacks ready!
11. Tony Stark's cool heavy metal T-shirt has a special significance!
In the original Avengers movie, Tony can be seen wearing a shirt featuring the band Black Sabbath. They released a single called Iron Man in 1971, but it's not about the Avengers superhero.
12. The person who played Hawkeye took his role very seriously!
The actor Jeremy Renner apparently took archery lessons so he looked like he really knew how to ping his arrows at the baddies.
13. The Avengers reunited two superheroes in particular!
The original Avengers movie saw Hulk and Thor appear together again for the first time since the 1988 TV film The Incredible Hulk Returns. HULK HAPPY.
14. Avengers: Infinity War marks the return of a nasty villain!
Even though we'd saw the last of Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, his appearance in Infinity War remained a secret until it was shown in cinemas.
15. A famous duck almost appeared in Infinity War!
While the Marvel team were writing the scripts, they considered including feathered hero Howard the Duck, the star of an 1986 movie which no-one really liked. They decided against it. He did, however, appear in Guardians of the Galaxy.
