Tom Felton had to dye his hair constantly
Tom Felton's hair is naturally darker than Malfoy's white blonde, which meant constant dyeing throughout all 8 films - which he says didn't leave it in a very good state afterwards!
He has lots of relatives
The Malfoy family is one of the oldest pureblood families, which also means he's related to a lot of other wizarding families. His first cousin is Tonks, and he's also related to Sirius Black through his mother. Sirius explains to Harry that the pureblood families had to intermarry to stop from dying out.
He's distantly related to Ron
Yup, along with all his other relations, the Weasleys and the Malfoys are also related! According to the family trees, Mr. Weasley's mother was a Black! It seems the Wizarding world is even smaller than you think. Shame Ron and Malfoy can't get on!
His name mean's 'Nasty Dragon'
Like most Harry Potter characters, Malfoy's name reveals something about him. 'Draco' is latin for 'Dragon' (As well as a constellation, another naming tradition in the Black family) whilst Malfoy comes from the French 'mal foi' meaning unfaithful or untrustworthy. So he's an untrustworthy dragon and you'd better look out for him!
He's an only child
Like Harry, Neville and Hermione, Draco is an only child. Growing up very wealthy and privilaged, it doesn't seem to have done Malfoy much good - he's spoiled, rude and unpleasant. Maybe he'd be nicer if there was another few Malfoys around Hogwarts? We'll never know!
His name was different in early drafts
JK Rowling had a few ideas for Malfoy's surname early on, including 'Spungen' and 'Spinks'. Somehow, 'Draco Spungen' doesn't sound very menacing...Malfoy suits him much better!
He appears in all 8 films
Malfoy is one of only a handful of characters to appear across all 8 film adaptations. The others are: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Fred and George, Professor Snape, Hagrid, Ginny, Neville, Seamus and Professor Flitwick. Good company!
He nearly went to Durmstrang
Durmstrang, the famous Eastern European Wizarding school which visits Hogwarts in book 4, is notoriously prejudice against muggle-borns and doesn't admit them. It's not surprise, then, that Malfoy reveals his father nearly sent him there instead of Hogwarts, but his mother didn't want him being so far away. Everyone probably would have had a nicer time if he had ended up there...
Tom Felton is a Gryffindor
Tom Felton revealed that after doing the Pottermore house quiz, he ended up in Gryffindor, which we can only imagine Malfoy would have hated! He didn't tell JK Rowling at first, all though she said that she wasn't at all surprised, since Tom is much nicer than Malfoy!
Tom's mum nearly died of fright when she saw his dummy
In the third film, a dummy was made of Tom Felton because there was a scene where he had to be carried by Hagrid. Tom thought the model was really cool, but his mum hated it, because he looked dead! Tom wanted to take it home to prank her!
JK Rowling doesn't like how popular he is
JK Rowling has said several times that she dislikes the fact that Malfoy has a fan base, and says she feels people are confusing Tom and his character. Whilst Tom gives Malfoy good looks and charm, ultimately she doesn't think the character should have any fans - he's a nasty, bigoted bully and would probably make a terrible boyfriend in real life!
He's the third wizard Harry meets
Not counting a few random characters, Malfoy is the third wizard Harry meets when Hagrid introduces him to the Wizarding world. He meets Professor Quirrel in the Leaky Cauldron, and then later at Madame Malkin's robe shop, he meets Malfoy and they have a pretty awkward conversation. Harry doesn't like Malfoy from the start, and thinks he's rude and snobby, and he's soon proved to be correct!
He once got turned into a ferret
Malfoy has a reputation for being a bit of a sneaky weasel, so it's no surprise that someone eventually decides to turn him into a ferret! In book 4, Professor Moody (Really Barty Crouch Jnr. in disguise) gets fed up of Malfoys arrogance and turns him into a ferret, bouncing him up and down with his wand in front of the other students. Hmm, maybe a warning sign that Professor Moody wasn't quite what he seemed?
His wand is Hawthorn and unicorn hair
Malfoy's original wand from Ollivanders is Hawthorn and unicorn hair. It's also the only wand to look the same throughout the whole film series, and is eventually stolen by Harry in book 7 after his own wand broke. He's also the real master of the elder wand, because he disarmed Dumbledore during the battle of the Astronomy Tower in book 6, though he has no idea!
He's in The Cursed Child
Malfoy returns as an adult for the stage play The Cursed Child, set several years after the last book. In it, he now has a son called Scorpius, who gets into a bit of bother with time travel. Malfoy is also now married and has inherited Malfoy Manor. He's a bit nicer than he used to be, but he's still Malfoy!
