We love LEGO. We love Star Wars. So imagine how much we LOVE Star Wars Lego! We love it so much we've written this quick list of all the best facts about the cosmic bricks. From when the first models were sold, to the video games, to the biggest models... Read on to find out your favourite new facts about the coolest Lego sets!
It was the first licensed LEGO brand!
Before Star Wars, LEGO only made sets based on its own series and ideas. But in 1999 it got together with Lucasfilm - the guys who made the original Star Wars movies - to announce it was launching sets based on the films! They decided to launch the X-wing set first, followed by Darth Vader's TIE Advanced and Y-wing, even though none of those ships appear in The Phantom Menace, which was coming out that year!
We might not have got many more sets...
Even though we're still getting new sets today, based on films like Rogue One and The Last Jedi, the original plan was only that LEGO would make Star Wars sets until 2008 - that's 7 YEARS before The Force Awakens came out!
The biggest official LEGO Star Wars set is the Millennium Falcon
Last year, LEGO released a brand new Millennium Falcon set that was one of the BIGGEST sets they've ever released! It's 33 inches long, 22 inches wide and 8 inches tall, and costs nearly £650! Han and Chewie would have to do a lot of smuggling to be able to afford that!The set has 7,500 pieces and lets the builder decide whether they want to have the sensor dish from the original films or from the new trilogy, and which crew they want to fly the old hunk o' junk! We wouldn't be surprised if other people have made even BIGGER Falcons, though...
What new LEGO Star Wars sets are coming out this year?
Lucky for us that LEGO and Disney decided to keep making Star Wars Lego, because this year we've got new sets being released based on The Last Jedi and some older films! We've already got the set based on Rey's training on Ach-To with Luke, and the Defence of Crait set, but later this year we'll also get new sets based on Han Solo's landspeeder and the Mos Eisley cantina - just in time for the Han Solo movie!
There's a solid gold C3PO figure!
Back in 2007, LEGO made a few solid gold C3PO minifigures! Each one is estimated to be worth THOUSANDS of pounds, as much because of how rare they are as because they're made of gold.Keep your eyes peeled for one of these, but you'll need to be sharp - only five of them were ever made! As R2-D2 would say, 'beeboop weeoooo'!
There have been FIVE Lego Star Wars games!
The fun doesn't stop with real-life bricks! In 2005 Traveller's Tales released Lego Star Wars: The Video Game on pretty much every console that was available at the time. It had a total of 59 playable characters from the prequel trilogy - and a bonus segment where you got to play as a 'prototype' Darth Vader, who still had Anakin's moves.Unlike later games, these didn't have the voices of the characters from the films! Instead, the characters were mostly silent!
They're still making LEGO Star Wars games!
The last LEGO Star Wars game came out alongside The Force Awakens. I know it's hard to believe, but that was actually before Nintendo released the Switch! Instead, it came out on Xbox One, PS4 and the Wii U!Instead of being based on three films or a cartoon series, like with the previous Star Wars LEGO games, this one was just based on The Force Awakens.
You can be Indiana Jones in LEGO Star Wars!
Because Harrison Ford plays both Han Solo and Indiana Jones (how cool is that guy!), there are lots of nods to Indiana Jones in the LEGO Star Wars games! You can buy Indiana Jones' hat to wear in some of the games, and in others Indy is a playable character!This isn't the first time the 2 series have crossed over. In the first Indiana Jones movie, both R2D2 and C3PO are carved into a pillar in one scene!
LEGO Star Wars in The LEGO Movie!
We love The LEGO Movie too! One of our favourite scenes is when the Millennium Falcon - piloted by Han and Chewie - shows up to help Emmet, Batman and everyone in their hour of need... on their way to a sweet party, at least.It makes sense that in a movie all about celebrating LEGO, they would include LEGO Star Wars, one of the best LEGO types out there!
