Story Writing Tips from Marcus Rashford Book Club author Alex Falase-Koya!
Children's author Alex Falase-Koya offers some blam tips on how to write your own story!
Hi! I'm Alex Falase-Koya, a children's writer from London and author of the superhero series Marv. I worked with Marcus Rashford to write The Breakfast Cub Adventures: The Beast Beyond the Fence which has been picked for the Marcus Rashford Book Club! The Marcus Rashford Book Club picks the books that are full of adventure, excitement and amazing characters. If you’re wondering how you could write a book like mine – or even a comic, a play, or a script – then here are some top writing tips!
1. Write about what you love!
When thinking about what you should write, I like to tell people to write what they're interested in. If you're really interested in history, write about it. If you're really interested in sports, write about that. If you're really interested in superheroes, then give that a go – just like I did!
2. Take a closer look at the stories you enjoy!
I would recommend taking a closer look at the stories you like (that could be in books, movies, TV shows or comics) and start to think about the parts of the story that are the most interesting. What makes that one character so much more interesting than the rest? What makes that ending so satisfying? What drew you into the story in the first place? You can learn a lot just by looking at the stories around you.
3. Start writing and enjoy it!
The best way to get started writing is to just start writing. It doesn't matter what you write, whether that's a novel or a script or fanfiction or a poem. Writing regularly and building a habit out of it is the best way to get you creating.
The Breakfast Cub Adventures: The Beast Beyond the Fence is out now through Pan Macmillan.
