What To Do When Things Feel Too Much
Do you feel a little overwhelmed by everything? Don't worry, help is at hand. Check out these top tips to turn that frown upside down!
Sometimes, we find ourselves worrying about lots of things at once and it can seem like that feeling will never go away. Don't worry – everyone has felt this way and you are most definitely not alone. Here are some tips to use whenever you're feeling stressed out.
1. Talk to someone!
This is the most important one of all, so it's top of the list. Elderly people have lots of sayings for many situations – and for good reason. They're almost always right. One of these is 'a problem shared is a problem halved'. It's a short way of saying that you shouldn't bottle up your worries as it won't do you any good. Talk to a grown up you trust – a parent, a carer, or a teacher – and they might be able to offer some help and help you see the bigger picture.
2. Get into a routine!
If you feel disorganised and that adds to your anxiety, try to get into a regular routine. Start by getting dressed, wash your face and brush your teeth when you wake up and you'll be ready for anything. No rushing around trying to do everything at once. No-one wants that. When you're ready for school, you're ready for anything. Right? Right.
3. Think positively!
Be positive! Yes, it's easier said than done, but if you try to adopt a positive mental attitude, it may help you approach everyday situations with a more optimistic state of mind. Do you remember Jordan Pickford during the penalties in the Euros last year? He said 'no problem' before the spot kick and then he saved the ball! PMA and self belief, right there.
4. Take a deep breath!
Feeling a bit anxious about a school test? Take some deep breaths. This will help you feel calmer and lower your heart rate, which help help you combat stress.
5. Write down your worries!
If you feel like your head is full of worry, it might be a good idea to get it all out on a sheet of paper. Then you can see what's troubling you and take steps to cross them off one by one.
6. Don't avoid things!
It's not a great idea to try and ignore your feelings, because that won't help you in the long run. Remember, you can always chat to your grown up or teacher and they can give you advice on what to do.
7. Relax!
Modern life can be very hectic and it will do you the world of good to just take a minute and recharge your batteries. There's a lot to be said about putting your feet up, having a snack and reading a comic or watching your favourite TV show.
8. Be kind to yourself!
It's very important to not feel bad about feeling overwhelmed by everything. It can happen to us all. Try and believe in yourself. You've got this!
9. Go outside!
Look at that face. This dog knows the value of having a walk in the fresh air. If dogs could write down a list of their favourite things, going outside would be at the top of the list (next to snacks). Some exercise in the fresh air can help clear your mind and you'll be return ready to tackle anything! Dog optional, of course.
10. Have an early night!
While a late night can be fun, it doesn't do you any good if you have to wake up early the following morning. If you don't have enough sleep, you won't have enough energy and might even find it hard to concentrate, which could make your worries seem bigger than they actually are.
